Newsletter February 2015

Hi Jazz Fans,

What a treat it  was for us to have the incredibly talented Mike Field Quintet perform for us on the 25th January! So cool to see an overseas muso perform on our stage. Along with Mike on Trumpet we were entertained by the gifted ex Auckland University music graduates Asher T. Lattie, tenor sax, Eamon E. Wells, double bass, Tristan Deck, drums and Connor McAneny, piano. We heard blistering, technically brilliant solos from all musicians and I enjoyed the standards Mike added since his last visit to HJS, including two of my favourites: All The Things You Are and Freddy Hubbard’s Up Jumped Spring. Mike also displayed his linguistic skills by singing in Italian - is there no end to his talent? Everyone I spoke to enjoyed the evening. I would like to thank the members for supporting this event and making the band feel so welcome and appreciated. Mike told me to pass on his thanks and said that he really enjoyed chatting to the HJS members. Thank you Mike and the band for making a great Sunday Jazz experience.
