Hi Jazz Fans !

Well, the year is nearly over, we have tried different bands a different room and a different venue. Time seems to have flown by so quickly one month to another, seasons changing barely noticed. The last meeting for the year will be on the 21st December bringing to a close our thirtieth year as a Jazz Society. To celebrate we will have Tracy who will start the evening off with a  hour of favourite Christmas party tunes, followed by the Hamilton Big Band to play swinging dance tunes for the rest of the evening. The Hamilton Big Band, led by Collin Ogle, is going from strength to strength. They meet on Tuesday evenings at Hillcrest High School fuelled by a pure love of Big Band Jazz music and all concerned giving there time for free. This is where as a Jazz organisation we should be doing more by coming along and showing support for our local talent – whom, with our support, will hopefully flourish. Perhaps we should run our very own local talent show for young Wiakato Jazz talent? Perhaps that could provide a first platform to young Jazz musicians? Please let me know if you think this is a good idea.

On the 30th November we were visited by Mrs Mary McMillan the wife of one of the original founding members we as a committee thought the evening was great.

Christmas will be dress up time Gatsby style so dig your ball gown or Santa suit out decorate your table or yourself if you want and lets make this happen lets celebrate  like we mean it enjoy your selves  to the fullest Merry Christmas from us All.

It was a turn of a page for our November Jazz meeting with the with the Jazz Society trialing a new venue, after many years at the racecourse.

Speaking with many who attended it seems  that  the  Cossie Club as a venue is tops. The problem with the food will be sorted for next time.

But all spoken to agree on the great music, making for a top-quality afternoon. Thank you Tracy & Fever for a professional performance of good relaxing Jazz and blues standards. Top musicians.
