Coming Up:

Sunday, 27th of November

Banda de la Casa

Waikato Commerce Club 4.30-7.30 | Adm. $15 public or $10 members

Banda de la Casa is a collaboration between a Polish-born jazz guitarist from London, Maciek and a Uruguayan bassist, Carlos Pla who met at a jazz gig in Hamilton in early 2015. Both Maciek and Carlos are relatively recent émigrés, and apart from their shared love for modern jazz styles, they realised that, they are both writing music inspired by the beauty of nature in Aotearoa. They decided to collaborate to compose a set of tunes for a, yet to be formed, band. In July 2015, the embryonic Banda de la Casa was offered a residency at the Nivara Lounge in Hamilton, which was perfect for mixing various line-ups of Waikato’s top jazz musicians. At the Hamilton Jazz Society concert, they will be joined by an amazing vocalist/saxophonist Hinemoa, tenor sax virtuoso Levon Dennison and two prominent members of the well-known quintet West Coast Jazz: Greg Taylor on keyboards and Freddy Limbert on drums.

Art Gecko +

River City Stompers

Art Gecko are largely unsung heroes. Regardless of genre, few if any local bands could claim a history that dates back two decades.

At the December meeting, we plan to organise a short ‘jam’ to give budding musicians a chance to play on stage with an experienced rhythm section. More info next newsletter.
