Art Gecko

Waikato Commerce Club, 197 Collingwood Street, Hamilton. 4.30-7.30 | Adm. $15 public or $10 members
Art Gecko
Art Gecko, formed 23 years ago, have become an integral and well loved part of the Jazz scene. Their talent line-up consists of five vocalists, keyboards, bass, rhythm and lead guitars, drums, violin, saxophones, and trumpet, performing old tunes as originally written, traditional jazz favourites and tunes by Amy Winehouse and others.
With deep sadness we would like to announce the passing of Clara Lange on the 20th November 2017 after a long illness bravely fought aged 46.

What made Clara special as a performer was that her craft - or her art - was a direct extension of her personality. The warmth of her playing directly reflected her warmth as a person. This was all the more remarkable in one battling cancer. Where many would become insular and justifiably morose, Clara was open and radiated light. She often went missing during band breaks, getting caught up in conversations with punters, yearning to connect with them not only as audience members but as fellow human beings. When Art Gecko offered to play our wedding there was no one more excited than Clara. It was more than just a vicarious pleasure. She believed in love and she believed in marriage. It was though our nuptials somehow reflected and reinforced her own relationship. Her joyful personality and superb musicianship will be deeply missed by all.
